Rare is the writer who can go it alone. Networking is as important as the work itself, and provides opportunities to swap marketing information, ideas, and to learn from more experienced writers. It's also an excellent source of encouragement and fellowship.

If you don't live close to some of the major conferences or can't afford them, try networking online. Many writer's groups have been active for years, and include print and/or electronic newsletters, tip sheets, and more. Find a group that matches your interests and give yourself a few weeks to see whether it's a good use of time.
